Oil Spill Update June 16, 2010
Dear ResortQuest Partner,
I hope that this email update finds you well and I wanted to bring you up to speed on a few new developments involving the BP spill.
Establishing the "worry free guarantee" that eased cancellation policies certainly helped occupancy rates in May. Guests continue to demand deep discounts, even more so as additional areas are impacted and media coverage increases.
We have confirmation today of weathered oil and tar balls making landfall on Okaloosa Island and it is reasonable to expect the oil to move further east as a result of the current wind and tides conditions. The areas in Alabama and in Florida that have seen oil are being cleaned daily. We continually update our website (http://www.resortquestnwfl.com/beach-photos.htm) with the most current photos, videos and official advisories. To date, nearly 200,000 visitors have viewed this web page and are relying on our daily updates. For your property's protection, we have set up feet cleaning stations behind affected properties in order to minimize impact.
As BP continues to refine their claim process, we are working at many levels to achieve some measure of consistency for our owners. On Tuesday of this week, we met with senior level adjusters representing BP to gain further clarification on the claims process. At this point, here is what BP recommends that you as a property owner should do:
Register a claim with BP using one of these two methods:
1. Call 1 (800) 440-0858 2. File online at www.bp.com/claims
Have your historical revenue numbers ready (you should have received those from RQ last week)
Gather other relevant documents that BP will request from you individually, such as tax returns, sales tax license, proof of ownership (such as your deed).
Because document requests from BP have varied literally by adjuster (sometimes even out of the same office), ResortQuest has established our own Owner Information team for our owners. I am pleased to announce that Annette Vann will head this new centralized team that will focus exclusively on expediting ResortQuest documents needed for our owners to file their individual claims with BP. Email will be the primary form of communication with Annette so that we can track each request through resolution. She can be reached at OwnerBPInfo@resortquest.com. Please include the following information in the subject line of any email that you send to Annette:
Complex or House name
Unit number
BP claim number
(Example, Sundestin unit 402 – 6783216990054, or Villa Serena - 4839733865488)
Please also include your name and contact information in every email to expedite communication.
I wish to thank each of you for your continued support as we manage through this unprecedented challenge. Please take comfort in knowing that you have the very best team in the business working 24/7 to not only protect as much revenue as possible but also to assist you with the BP claims process.
Sincerely,
Lino Maldonado
